This piece references life cycles, birth, death, dream states, and women's labor. The pillow cases were given to me by my mother. I contemplate the body's ultimate return to Earth, and the Queen Anne's lace speaks to women's labor and pain, because according to folklore, the red dot in the center of the flower is from a drop of Queen Anne's blood pricked while she was lace-making. Queen Anne also lost 17 children to miscarriage, still birth, and early death. I recall my own ectopic pregnancy and my mother's miscarriage.

Mugwort is found in a Norse-Christian poem called the Nine Herbs Charm, which invokes the use of nine herbs for mystical protection from disease. It is also said to give vivid dreams when consumed or stuffed in one's pillowcase.
